In 1994 statistics indicated that the rate of births to single mothers living in Cottonwood county were increasing at a rate three times faster than the Minnesota state average. Although problems associated with poverty, lack of education, unemployment, social isolation and poor relationships with their extended families significantly adds to the difficulties single mothers have - like anyone lacking a personal relationship with the Lord their problem is a spiritual separation from God.
Single mothers, and their children, have multiple obstacles in their lives preventing them from experiencing a fulfilling live on earth, and eternal life in heaven. These young families often feel alienated from the local church, and need to know the love and forgiveness found only in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Because of these concerns local Christians, working in public health and other agencies serving young families, began praying, asking God for His leading in a ministry to these special families. As a result, Elizabeth House began building bridges, through a number of ministries, to show Jesus' love through practical, one-to-one outreach to local families.
